The Academy of Health Care Management was established as a result of long-term cooperation between healthcare managers, CMC Graduate School of Business faculty, public sector officials and foreign colleagues from academic institutions interested in passing on their knowledge and experience in the health care arena.  All of these groups had a common interest in health care reform, and in particular reforms within the Czech Republic.  Together their mission is to help create an effective and economical healthcare system in the Czech Republic.

Since the beginning of the 1990s we have tried to reflect on topical issues and problems and, most importantly, to find answers and solutions to them. A course curriculum was gradually developed, based on our regularly scheduled seminars that addressed emerging health care issues (cost management, rules for modern investment, developments in IT, managing regional networks, rules for the creation and functioning of non-profit organizations, insurance company competition,  forms of managed care, the benefits and implications of healthcare privatization…).  When it became obvious that this “interest” needed a more definite structure and therefore a more complex educational program, the Dynamic Healthcare Manager program was established under the organizational umbrella of the CMC.

Experience with the teaching methods employed by American MBA programs (DePaul and Thunderbird) in CMC enabled us to acquire an understanding of the content and organization of MBA study at an international level. From here it was but a small step to the creation of a specialized MBA healthcare program. Our program is built on the foundation of the valuable experience we gained through our long-term cooperation with professors from Canada’s McGill University, the US’s Auburn University College of Business.  Also involved in the development of our program were staff members of prestigious organizations as the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the Voluntary Hospitals of America, as well as other educational institutions – the Bocconi University, DePaul University Nursing School and INSEAD.

In addition to the health care MBA, the Academy continues to run its traditional seminars reacting to on-going issues – such as the financial crisis, economic stagnation and its effect on the development of healthcare, the legal problems involved in providing medical care, and anticipated changes in the organization of the provision of medical care in the Czech Republic and the European Union. It is the goal of the Academy to share the wealth of knowledge gained from our experts and from our experiences with other parts of Europe either through presentations or collaboration on European research projects.
